Long time ago, there lived an honored man who had divine power called Raden Pandan Arang. One day, Raden Pandan Arang had a meeting with his students, and courtiers, from the advice of his followers, they decided to travel to the south area of Semarang.
Raden Pandan Arang, his students and his courtiers walked to the south of Semarang. Their trip was exhausted because that area full of hills and mountains. But, they didn’t feel tired because they were entertained by the beautiful scenery in that area.
There was a village near Raden Pandan Arang and his followers rested. The village was wealth and prosperous. There were nine springs in that village, which the locals known as "tuk sanga".Tuk in a Javanese word means "spring"; and sanga means "nine". The springs were very profitable for the local community, because the water from the nine springs were amazingly clear. The water not only used for bathing, washing and cooking, but also to irrigate their crops.
However, the last three months, the tuk sanga caused a big problem. The problem was the water from the nine springs come out in a big amount. Then, there was stagnant water in many places. Because of that, residents in that area worked together to close the hole, but always failed.
In the sadness of the local community, Raden Pandan Arang came. Shortly, Raden Pandan Arang did ablution and prayed. He prayed for a long time. When he finished his praying, he said: "Ladies and gentlemen, after this, the water from the springs will be stopped. But only one spring was left. It can be used in your everyday life. My message for you, please keep the spring always clean and give the name of this village Tambalang.”
"We will follow your command.” answer one of the local community. ”If we were allowed to know, what is the meaning of the Tambalang name? Tambalang was coming from the patch (tambal) and lost (ilang). Did you were repeatedly patching the holes, springs, but always lost it? ".
Raden Pandan Arang and the entourage quickly left that place. Then, the miracle was happening and the water was getting smaller.
Since then, the region or the village was known by the name of Tambalang. But now people call it Tembalang
